Summer camps offer learning experiences
June 5, 2002
A group of children kneeled around Roger Boyd as he opened a seed pod that had fallen from a tree on the campus Baker University. Boyd pointed out the insides of the pod including a gooey substance that he told the children resembled ear wax. “That’s gross,” said one young girl. “Sick,” a boy said. The seed pod was just one of the items the group of children looked at and discussed on Boyd’s tour of plants on Baker Thursday. Boyd’s presentation was part of the Back to Nature camp that gave children the opportunity to learn more about plants and animals. The nature camp is just one week-long day camp in a series of 10 sponsored by the Baldwin City Recreation Commission.
