Lawrence City Band
to perform concert

The Lawrence City Band, under the direction of Robert E. Foster, conductor, will perform July 24 at 8 p.m. at South Park Gazebo. The title of the concert is "The Grand Finale Concert." Concerts are broadcast at 6 p.m. on KLWN-AM 1320..

ECKAN to distribute
food items

ECKAN will distribute food items to eligible Douglas County commodity participants in Baldwin on Thursday, July 25 at the American Legion Hall from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Gospel Night in
Wellsville is set

The July Gospel Night in Wellsville will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Fifth and Main streets. The Gospelaires from Excelsior Springs, Mo., will be featured. The Witness Band will also be on stage.

Baldwin teen
participates in pageant

Denise Orloff, 14-year-old daughter of Brian and Sabina Orloff of Baldwin City, participated in the Miss Teen of Kansas pageant in Wichita, KS. Contestants ranged in age from 13 to 18 years old. The three-day event included scoring for academics, poise, interviewing, and general knowledge. Denise won the "Athletic Excellence Award" and her packet will be forwarded to nationals for consideration in the Miss Teen of America pageant.

"I was very happy to win the award. It was a great experience. I had a lot of fun and made new friends," said Orloff.

Brennan Dardis
named Eagle Scout

The Boy Scouts of Troop 14 in Ahwatukee, Ariz., presented the Eagle Scout Award to Brennan Dardis on June 7 at the Parish Center at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Brennan is the son of Mark and Melissa Dardis of Phoenix and the grandson of Mary Laughlin of Baldwin and Helen Dardis of Lawrence, Kansas.

Brennan's project was a Christmas party for the homeless children of United Methodist Outreach Ministries. As part of the party Brennan collected donated toys, organized a band, read Christmas stories and provided refreshments for over 50 children. Santa Claus also paid a visit.

Brennan is a recent honor graduate of Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix. He plans to attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., in the fall.
