Private memorial services for Nancy J. Taylor, 59, Lawrence, will be held at a later date. Ms. Taylor died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002.
She was born Nov. 2, 1942, in Lawrence, the daughter of Brice and Frances (Holloway) Allen, Sr.
Survivors include her mother, Frances Nitsch, Baldwin City; one daughter, Mary Jane Barnes, Lawrence; two brothers, Roy Allen, Hutchinson, and Sonny Allen, Baldwin City; one sister, Kandie Koehler, Baldwin City; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Nancy J. Taylor Memorial Fund in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
EDITH CATHERINE ELSTON
Services for Edith Catherine Elston, 94, Baldwin City, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Baldwin City. Interment will follow at Stoney Point Cemetery in rural Douglas County.
Mrs. Elston died Jan. 19, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 25, 1907, to John and Kate (Durham) Crusha in Leavenworth. As a child, the family moved to the Lawrence area where she grew up and attended school.
Mrs. Elston worked for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aid for 23 years before her retirement in 1982.
She married Donald Elston Aug. 3, 1937. He died March 14, 1993.
After their marriage, they moved to the Vinland area where they lived until moving to the Baldwin City area in 1955.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna J. Thomas and her husband Martin, Baldwin City; one son, Arthur Payne and his wife Geraldine, Baldwin City; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Shirley Lee and Gladys MacAlexander; and one son, Jack Payne.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home.
