Remembering the year Baldwin sports

January 2, 2002

It's become a Signal tradition, much like the holidays a review of the year in sports.

As usual we've included that look back at what took place on the fields, courts, tracks and other sports venues in the following pages. As for the biggest sports stories of the year, that's pretty easy.

Runners dominated Baldwin's sports scene, whether it's Baldwin High School or Baker University. Topping the charts are the state championships won by BHS in track and cross country. Of course there's Matt Noonan's personal titles, too. Baker's cross country team also went to nationals.

But whether it's BHS's first track title or the fourth cross country title or Noonan's third individual cross country title, it's for anyone to pick which is best.

Of course there were other major accomplishments, such as BHS's Eric Black participating in an international event during the summer because of his decathalon abilities. Who's to say Baldwin Junior High School's first-ever football game doesn't go right up there? That was a long, hard struggle. Or what about Baldwin's youth football team winning the Toy Bowl, which some refer to as a state title?
