Bulldogs lose thriller in the ‘pit’ this time

BES students complete their own bologna commercial for national contest

Early Wednesday afternoon, students started filing in to the open room, some wearing red shirts, others wearing white shirts. After 15 minutes of moving and shuffling around, the students had formed a red and white rectangle. Soon 250 voices singing, “Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener …,” could be heard echoing down the halls of the school.
Annual Girl Scout cookie delivery lots of work, but enjoyable

Almost everyone seems to have their favorites, whether it’s the Thin Mints or the Peanut Butter Patties or the Caramel de Lites. So it’s not unusual that people look forward to an annual visit from a Girl Scout laden with boxes of cookies.
Construction to begin soon on McDonald’s

Those wanting to see the arch won’t have to go all the way to St. Louis. Baldwin City will actually have a golden pair of its own soon. The construction on the new McDonald’s and Santa Fe Market should begin in March, said Santa Fe Market owner Frank Foye.
Senior wins state wrestling title

He’s listed as the 275-pound Class 4A State Champion, but Baldwin High School’s Witt Hinton will say he’s far from a heavyweight, the common term for the highest weight class. But, he’s no lightweight either and he’s thrilled to be a champion. “Everyone goes for a state championship, but not many people can do it,” said Hinton, a BHS senior who won the state title Saturday in Wichita. “I was just thrilled to do it, especially with all the weight I was giving up. “I couldn’t believe it when the official was counting down the time 3, 2, 1. I was the state champ,” he said.
Baker women lose to end record season

A 95-83 loss to top seed Evangel University in the Heart of America Athletic Conference semi-finals Saturday in Springfield, Mo., ended the most prolific season in Baker womens basketball season history. The Cats tied or broke 11 season and game team records in 2001-02.
BHS wrestlers turn in top state finish

It was a record-breaking year for the Baldwin High School wrestling team and the Bulldogs closed it out with a seventh-place finish Saturday at the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament, the highest ever finish for BHS.
