One downtown Baldwin building will soon have a new look. The former Buff and Grind building, 601 High St., will be getting a new coat of paint. But it’s not the average paint job.
Baldwin schools have smooth start to year despite construction

It’s been nearly two weeks since Baldwin students started the new school year. In those two weeks, both the students and teachers have been able to get back into the routine and things are now running pretty smoothly. But the first few days weren’t too bad either.
Baker’s initial enrollment numbers remain steady

Baker University’s enrollment of 2,894 students has remained stable from last fall, despite difficult economic times and increased competition among colleges for top students.
Meeker heads to prison for Baldwin shooting

A former Baldwin resident will spend time in prison for his role in last year’s shooting on the west side of town. Douglas County District Court Judge Jack Murphy sentenced Stephen Meeker, 35, to serve about six years in prison for convictions in the Oct. 14 shooting in the 1200 block of Bison Court.

It’s just a matter of days before Baldwin’s newest restaurant, McDonald’s, is open for business. But what effect will the new fast food hamburger business have on other Baldwin restaurants when it opens? Paul Mayse thinks it’s not going to be good. “For the number of people in this town, we’ve got a lot of restaurants,” Mayse, owner of Mr. Goodcents, said. “When it opens, things are going to be harder. It’s going to be an interesting next few months.” McDonald’s is just the latest in a number of restaurants that have come to Baldwin during the past few years, many of which are located along U.S. Highway 56.
