Scholarships awarded to White, Shuck
Kenton Shuck and Jennifer White are this year's Baldwin High School recipients of the Maple Leaf Festival scholarships.
The scholarships, which are awarded from the Dr. Ivan Boyd and Margaret Boyd memorial, are for the amount of $1,000 each.
Stacy Cohen, scholarship coordinator, said the two recipients are selected by a committee from a number of applications submitted.
She said the committee looks at how well-rounded the applicants are and the winners are chosen based on the festival's ideals of community service, good character and achievement.
White's activities have included: FCCLA, FCCLA district and chapter officer of public relations, KYCK, International Club, National Honor Society, Teens as Teachers, 4-H, Douglas County 4-H dog club, Baldwin First United Methodist Church youth group, church nursery baby-sitter, church bell choir, community Easter egg hunt, blood donor, Marion Springs Field Day volunteer and highway clean up volunteer. She has a 3.9 grade-point average.
Shuck's activities have included: football, tennis, National Honor Society, Boy Scouts, band, math team, Relay for Life, First United Methodist Church youth group, food drive volunteer, community clean up day volunteer, youth group food kitchen volunteer, 4-H and Old Castle Dancers. He has a 3.8 grade-point average.
Shuck and White will be honored in the Maple Leaf Festival parade Saturday.
