LEROY S. PARSONS
Graveside services for LeRoy S. Parsons, 77, Baldwin City, will be today at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. Mr. Parsons died Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1924 at Vinland, the son of Walter Stillman Parsons and Sadie Violet (Joy) Parsons. He attended Harmony Schools. He was an Army paratrooper serving in WWII. He worked at FMC for 33 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Alford Clark Post #852 of the VFW, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge.
He married Esther Mae Tingle on Nov. 12, 1946 in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Survivors include: one son, Steven L. Parsons, Parkville, Mo.; three daughters, Karen Parsons, Eudora, Linda Reno, Denver, Colo. and Nancy Parsons, Kirkland, Wash.; three sisters, Ruth Schellbar, Lawrence, Dorothy Brown, Marshalltown, Iowa and Mildred Kirk, Tulsa, Okla. and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services for Sue Torneden-Nye, 56, Baldwin City, were Monday at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City. Mrs. Torneden-Nye died Saturday, September 29, 2001 at her home.
She was born August 23, 1945 at Columbus, the daughter of John and Elva Proffitt. She attended Carona Grade School in Columbus. The family moved to the Mineral Springs area where she attended West Mineral and Southeast High Schools, graduating in 1963.
She was owner and operator of Baldwin Floral from 1986 to 1993. She also owned the Koffee Haus from 1995 to 1996. She was a founding member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, a member of the PEO and Hestia.
She married Ted Mead March 2, 1963. They later divorced. She married Wayne Torneden September 7, 1986. He died May 24, 1994. She married Bill Nye January 24, 1998.
She is survived by her husband of the home, seven children: Donald Mead and his wife, Jeanne, Lawrence; Doug Mead and his wife, Jennifer, Baldwin City; Christel Torneden, Lenexa; Erich Torneden, Kansas City, Mo.; Billy Nye and his wife, Milissa, Lawrence; Debbie Nye, Overland Park; Dustin Nye, Lawrence; six brothers and sisters: Ira Sharp, Columbus; Ida West, Sparta, Mo.; Chuck Proffitt, Cherokee; Anna Marie Love, Sparta, Mo.; Lena Wading, Scammon and Don Broffitt, Pleasanton; a father-in-law, Earl Torneden, Baldwin City; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister: David Sharp, Eddie Sharp, John (Jr.) Proffitt and Mildred Gentry.
She was buried in Edgemund Cemetery, Columbus. Memorials may be left to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
