Black, 4x800 team set records
Track season is coming to a close. With only three meets left (league, regionals and state) the Baldwin High School boys track team has high spirits.
They have won every meet they have competed in, except the Eudora and Girard Invitationals. Among those wins was the one Friday at the Redbud Classic at Wellsville.
"We did very well, and I was really excited and pleased with our performances," coach Mike Spielman said.
There were two meet records set by Baldwin the 800-meter run and the 4x800-meter relay. The 4x800 record was set by juniors Eric Black, Matt Noonan, Hans Broers and Glen Stansberry, with a time of 8:12.7, and the 800-meter run was set by Black with a time of 1:59.5.
"I was really proud of my performance, as well as my team's performance Friday. I think we have had a really great season so far this year. We've won a lot of our meets including a big one, K.T. Woodmen, a big meet we've never won before. I think we will continue to do well and I think we can win our last three meets as long as everyone starts coming around like they should," Black said.
There are 10 teams that compete in the Frontier League meet. The top competition will be between Louisburg, Eudora, Wellsville and Baldwin. The past two years the Bulldogs have been runners-up at league, so the squad is hopeful that this year will be its year to shine.
