BHS tennis team ready to serve it up

March 14, 2001

The Baldwin High School boys tennis team is hitting the courts for a new season. They had 23 team members at the first meeting. Although the team has no returning seniors, the squad feels confident in the many young players who are stepping up to take on the challenge of varsity tennis.

"We have a lot of young and inexperienced players, but I am hoping it will be a lot of fun," said second-year coach Troy Webb, who last year helped lead the team to a regional title and an individual state championship in singles. Webb, who also serves as BHS assistant boys basketball coach and a BJHS science teacher, is excited about the season.

Last year's squad also had an undefeated state champion in Blake Glover who will be difficult to replace, but Webb feels confident in the team's ability to have success this year.

The first meet for the Bulldogs is April 4, a competition hosted by Baldwin. The teams participating in the meet are Lawrence Free State, Stilwell-Blue Valley and Highland Park. Those schools are Class 5A and 6A teams. The meet starts at 3 p.m.
