To the Editor:
I am a Second Class Rank Boy Scout in Troop 65 here in Baldwin City. I have been in Boy Scouts about one year. However, I have been to several Scout activities at the Spring Creek (City) Lake. I attended campouts and outings there when I was in Cub Scouts. I enjoy going to the lake to fish, camp or canoe. It seems like a perfect spot for Scout events.
My older brother, Kenton, has been in Boy Scouts about six years. This gave me the chance to tag along and be part of many Boy Scout activities there also. I was lucky to be one of his assistants on his Eagle Scout Project there in 1997. I worked over 30 hours helping him on his project. Since then I have helped with trail maintenance and cleanup several times.
Someday I hope to have an Eagle Scout Project of my own. All this talk about the future of the lake has me wondering. Will the lake still be available at that time? I understand that sometimes tough choices need to be made. I just hope that the city will consider the value the lake has to the local youth in the Scouting program when the time comes. I also have heard that Mary Swan is starting a petition about the lake. I hope your readers will consider signing that petition.
