Council candidates also will appear in a forum beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Baldwin Junior High School auditorium.
Baker program series gets theatrical start

Baldwin City residents need not venture far to experience quality arts and entertainment this spring. Baker University’s entertainment calendar kicks off with a staged reading of Lorraine Hansberry’s play, “To Be Young, Gifted and Black.” The curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. and runs from Thursday through Sunday in the Darby-Hope Theatre.

GARDNER It was almost a double snow-out for the Baldwin High School girls last week, but they did manage to get in a Saturday game against the Gardner Trailblazers here and what a game it was. BHS bounced the Blazers 65-48.
BHS boys take battle in the ‘barn’

OLATHE It was quite a week for the Baldwin High School boys. First they found themselves playing in an antiquated “barn” last Tuesday while playing Olathe Christian. Then they got winter-stormed out against Eudora Friday.

It will be round two Thursday night as the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce will have its second public forum for candidates. This time it will be for Baldwin City Council hopefuls.
Working around the weather

A mixture of freezing rain and snow canceled Baldwin schools on Friday and a layer of ice kept many drivers from getting in their cars. Employees at businesses downtown spent almost as much time outside making sidewalks safe as inside, as Friday’s weather didn’t relent until late afternoon. Many residents who work locally or commute found themselves using the same excuse for being late their car doors were frozen shut.
Board looks at option of refinancing
