Residents vent electrical anger

Power may have been out in Baldwin City over the weekend, but there was plenty of steam rising. Residents and business owners alike were irate after outages early Saturday morning and Sunday night.

Harms has passion to teach

Hilary Harms’ first year of school is beginning all over again. The recent Baker University graduate started her first year of school as a teacher two weeks ago at Baldwin Elementary School. “I was really nervous before I came in that first day,” Harms said. “But I was surprised when I walked into the classroom and I was confident. I was a teacher. I was ready.” The new third grade teacher spent much of the summer, and even a little last spring, preparing for this year’s class of 18 students.

BU loses bowl, but will bounce back

Baker University lost its opener 21-14 in overtime to Peru (Neb.) State in the Wheat Bowl Saturday in Ellinwood. But, BU head coach John Frangoulis believes it will pay off in the long run. Baker dominated the first half and had a 14-0 lead. But, Peru State answered with 14 second-half points and added a touchdown in overtime to seal the victory Saturday. Frangoulis believes his BU Wildcats will learn a lesson from the game as they head into Heart of America Athletic Conference action at 7 p.m. Saturday at home at Liston Stadium against Evangel.

McClintock continues therapy; Goff sentenced for BHS incident

Former Baldwin High School student Kenneth Goff was placed on probation last Wednesday after pleading no contest to hitting classmate Anthony McClintock in the head with a broomstick causing serious head injuries.
