New faculty members join university ranks

Three new full-time faculty members begin this fall at Baker University's College of Arts and Sciences.

Stuart Dorsey, vice president and dean of the College, said he is pleased with the new additions.

"They continue the trend of the last few years of adding strength to the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences," he said. "We've attracted good people."

New full-time faculty members are Heidi Strobel, assistant professor of art; Denis Popel, assistant professor of computer science; and Zoe Kelley, visiting professor of music.

Strobel will receive her Ph.D. in art history this fall from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She taught Chinese Art History at the University of Illinois and served as a graduate counselor in the Office of Minority Student Affairs. Her expertise is in European and East Asian art history.

Popel received his Ph.D. in computer science at Technical University in Szczecin, Poland in 2000. Previously, he was an assistant professor of computer-aided design at Technical University in Poland and a computer science lecturer at Australia's University of Wollongong in the United Arab Emirates.

Kelley earned her Ph.D. in music education at the University of Kansas in 1981. She has taught music at the University of Montana, the University of Kentucky, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and most recently, Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.
