Tailgate buffet set for Bash
Several hundred hungry Bashers are expected Sept. 7 as food chairman Dale Enick and a host of skilled and not-so-skilled helpers get ready for the onslaught. With the Bulldog Bash beginning at 5 p.m. and ending promptly at 6:30, the tailgate buffet will be set up to accommodate a big crowd in a limited amount of time.
The menu will feature traditional tailgate items such as hot dogs, brats and polish dogs, as well as side dishes like coleslaw, potato salad and baked beans. Iced tea and lemonade will be provided to drink and cookies will be the dessert.
Baker University's huge cookout grill will be heated up early in the afternoon to get ready to cook the main course. Enick has put together a capable work force that will have several serving lines ready to go at the 5 p.m. start.
Baker baseball coach Phil Hannon has agreed to provide an elite group of workers which have come to be affectionately known as Phil's Food Flunkies. The "Flunkies" will be a group of approximately one dozen BU baseball players who will assist Enick with various tasks ranging from hauling ice and food to serving and cleaning up.
"For the most part, the Baker baseball guys will be helping out with the food and the BU basketball guys will be running the contests for the kids. We've found that it's best to keep the basketball players away from the food as much as possible. Coach Hannon has some quick infielders who should really be able to move the ice and drink containers," said Rick Weaver, Bash spokesman.
