RWD No. 4 to meet Tuesday

Rural Water District No. 4, Douglas County, will have its regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the conference room of the district office.

Tryouts for Ballad of
Black Jack set

August 25 and 26 are the dates set for tryouts for "Ballad of Black Jack," to be performed during Maple Leaf Festival. Tryouts will be August 25 at the Lawrence Public Library at 2 p.m. and August 26 at Baldwin City Library at 2 p.m. Singers, dancers and actors are needed. Come prepared to sing the "Do Re Mi" song from Sound of Music. Speaking parts: Two parts for boys ages 8-13, several parts for young men and women ages 20-30, other juicy parts for mature men and women. Call 785-594-2378 for info.

Ives Women to have
breakfast meeting

Ives Chapel United Methodist Women will gather in Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, August 15 at 8:30 a.m. for a breakfast/business meeting. Jeroldene Martin will be hostess and Avis Hobson will present a meditation.

Society inducts
local student

Jarrett Johnson, Baldwin City, has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall.

NSCS is a highly selective, national, non-profit honors organization. Founded in 1994, NSCS recognizes first and second year undergraduate students who excel academically. The society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and a duty to perform service.

Johnson attends Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo. His parents are Michael and Kathleen Johnson, Baldwin City.
