BHS softball ready to make debut

After weeks of practicing, the Baldwin High School varsity girls softball team will open its season on Friday. The Bulldogs will be hosting Hays High School at 3 p.m. at the ball diamonds north of BHS. It will be a single varsity game.
Mixed bag for Baker baseball

The Baker University Wildcat baseball team started its weekend on Friday with a game against Park University. It was a rain make up from earlier in the week.
Callahan snares national gold

It was a day to remember for Baldwin youth wrestler Kevin Callahan. Callahan and Baldwin wrestlers Josiah Mason, Gabe Mason and Alan Callahan competed in the prestigious Kids National Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at the Topeka Expocenter, but it was Kevin Callahan who made the biggest splash at the event. Competing in the 12-under, 100-pound division, Callahan won the title to become Baldwin’s first wrestler to ever win a championship at the state or national level.

Black Jack Diner is on the way

Dari Ring, 516 Ames, closed last week. A new restaurant with a new theme and name, Black Jack Diner, will be opening at that location with a target date of April 18.
Chamber, Baker set to honor Baldwin’s finest

The Baker University/Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce awards dinner is Thursday in the Harter Union on the Baker Campus. The event begins with a social at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Four awards will be given to area residents.

An intense campaign for change succeeded Tuesday night, as four new faces were voted on to the Baldwin City Council three council members and a mayor.

There was an air of dignity with formal robes and the sound of bagpipes. But, there was plenty of tongue-in-cheek and just pure fun as Baker University welcomed spring to campus with the annual “Return of the Waters” ceremony Thursday.

Baldwin High School opened the track season Friday with a bang, as both teams won team championships in the 36th Annual Baldwin Invitational Track Meet.
City looks at DUI options

The Baldwin City Council focused the majority of its time Monday on two draft versions of Ordinance 1058, which would criminalize the activity of young adults age 16 to 21 who drink and drive. It took no action on this issue.
