Four Baker players to all-star football game

Four Baker University football players have been selected to play in the Heartland Classic All-Star Game April 29. The game matches all-stars from the Heart of America Athletic Conference, of which Baker is a member, against the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference All-Star Team.

Rural Baldwin home destroyed by blaze

A rural Baldwin house at 1192 N. 100 Road was destroyed by a fire caused by a faulty hot water heater early Monday morning.
U.S. 59 faces environmental study

Citizens tackle student use of drugs, alcohol

There’s been a furor lately concerning drug and alcohol use and abuse by Baldwin City students. The subject was broached at last week’s school board meeting, there was a front-page story in the Lawrence Journal-World on the issue Saturday and one concerned citizen has set up a meeting to discuss the topic next week.
Baker students take working break

A group of Baker University students acquired a few skills not learned in the classroom during their spring break last week. Some students helped put siding on a house. Others laid sod and cut landscape timbers for a flower garden. Several helped a church organization move its food pantry.
Fire destroys highway restaurant

A fire that destroyed Popp’s Restaurant, 131 Baker, Sunday night probably started in the restaurant’s heating system, according to the State Fire Marshal. The restaurant was closed and unoccupied at the time the fire was reported, about 6:30 p.m.
BHS state tournament memories available

There have been many inquiries into pictures, stories, etc., that The Signal did for the Class 4A State Tournament last week in which the Baldwin High Bulldogs finished third.
