Baker splits games; Hannon gains first collegiate coaching win

March 15, 2000

After a rain-out for the original home opener, the Baker University baseball team was finally able to kick off the home season last Tuesday and split a pair of games with MidAmerica Nazarene.

MidAmerica won the first game 6-4 in extra innings, but Baker's Wildcats bounced back in the nightcap with an 8-6 victory. It was first-year head coach Phil Hannon's first collegiate coaching victory.

Jim Eason picked up the pitching victory for Baker and Quinten Rials earned the save. The pair helped hold MidAmerica to eight hits. The offensive highlight was a home run by senior catcher Jamie Sauder.

In the opener, Josh White took the loss for Baker. Sauder also homered in that game, as did Justin Miller, a senior first baseman.

Baker traveled to Oklahoma Saturday and took on Cameron in a doubleheader. Again the Wildcats split, winning 2-1 in the first game and losing 8-1 in the second.

Ben Sickel was the winning pitcher, allowing just the one run on four hits. Mike Palo and Sauder drove in the runs. In the second game, Chip Mitchell had the lone RBI.

The Wildcats are playing several games during a Spring Break trip to Oklahoma.
