Katharine Kelley gains 1999 ‘Best Friend’ Award

The Friends of the Baldwin City Public Library Board has selected Katharine Kelley as the recipient of the first “Best Friend” award. She will be honored with a reception at the annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 28. She will also be nominated for a state award given by Friends of Kansas Libraries (FOKL).

The Baldwin school board reviewed the district’s weapons policy and met in executive session for an hour Monday night in response to a Baldwin Junior High School student being shot by a BB gun last Monday.
U.S. 56 widening project in full swing

Spring is already showing signs of increasing construction on U.S. Highway 56. The highway is being widened to three lanes from Ninth Street to Third Street. One of the lanes will be a center turn lane.
