Hornets top Hammers again
Baldwin City's Hornets 13-14 year-old baseball team won both games last week to push its regular season record to 10-2. Brian Wendt threw a complete game and struck out five as the Hornets beat the Hammers 15-4 on Wednesday in Baldwin City. Five Hornets Brian Turk, Grant Meisenheimer, Wendt, J.D. King and Kyle Flory had multiple-hit games. Wendt faced just six batters in the first two innings.
On Friday in Lawrence, the Hornets fell behind 8-2, but rallied with nine runs in the second inning to take the lead and eventually won the game 17-9. Turk had three hits, including a home run over the left-center fence, and Kyle Flory and Kyle Lauridsen each had two hits. Turk threw the first four innings and picked up the win. King threw the final two innings and got the save. The Hornets are in action in Lawrence on Thursday against the Yankees and on Friday at 6 p.m. in Baldwin against the league-leading White Sox
