Arvelda Cecelia Wright
Funeral services for Arvelda Cecelia Wright, 82, Lawrence, were Friday at the Clearfield United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wright died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at the Eudora Nursing Center.
She was a life long resident of Douglas County and lived in Lawrence for many years. She lived briefly in Wichita Falls, Texas during World War II.
She was born May 10, 1918, in Clearfield, the daughter of John and Lillie Selzer Chanay. She attended elementary school in Clearfield and was a 1936 graduate of Baldwin City High School and a graduate of Lawrence Business College.
Mrs. Wright worked as a secretary for Lawrence Airport and the Wichita Falls, Texas, airport. She and her husband owned and operated Wright's Market for many years and she later operated a typing business out of her home.
She was a member of the Clearfield United Methodist Church and had attended the Lawrence Friends Church for many years.
She was married to Earl R. Wright on August 10, 1940, in Eudora. He died December 6, 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Decker, Lawrence; three sons, Ron Wright, Jim Wright and Steve Wright, all of Baldwin City; two sisters, Lucille Seetin and Nadine Tucker, both of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Burial was in Clearfield Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association or Meals on Wheels and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th, Lawrence, KS 66044.
