The Baldwin Hammers 13-14 year old baseball team thumped the Lawrence Rockies by a 12-4 count to help salvage the week for the young club. Played on Baldwin’s home field, the game was the third between the teams, with each squad notching one win in previous games.

The 16-and-under Baldwin Skyhawks went into the USSSA State Tournament in Emporia with some momentum from their first tournament championship of the summer, but they were only able to win one of four games that they played.
Legion fit to be tied at home

The Baldwin American Legion team won once in five games this past week. Yet, the 10-0 win against the Class 4A State Champions Wamego was not what coach Chris Rose was impressed with the most. It was a 7-7 tie against Ottawa on Thursday night that he felt was one of the highlights of the season thus far for the team.

Brynn Paine’s team, the Kansas City Terrafins, placed 14th at the Baquacil Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships in Oakland, Calif., June 24-July 2.

City reschedules budget hearing

There will not be a public hearing on the city’s 2001 budget on Monday night as scheduled. Instead, City Administrator Larry Paine will walk the City Council through the budget step by step, and answer any questions along the way. The public hearing is planned for Tuesday, July 25, at a time and location to be announced.
