Gilbert Gilges will celebrate his 83rd birthday July 6. The event is being marked with a card shower. Cards may be sent to 268 E. 900 Rd, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
Library to feature Adventure Club Showcase
Area youth and adults will be entertained with stories and puppetry at 10 a.m. today at the Baldwin City Public Library. Richard Guy Productions Magic Show, sponsored by the Maple Leaf Planning Committee, will be at the library at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. The theme of this magic-filled program is "Ready, Set, Read!"
Ives Chapel UMW to have morning meeting
The Ives Chapel United Methodist Women will meet at the home of Joy Uthoff at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, for a general meeting and breakfast.
RWD No. 4 to meet Tuesday
Rural Water District No. 4, Douglas County, will have its regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the conference room of the district office.
Lawrence Therapy Services to make free screenings available
The Lawrence Therapy Services will have a free balance screening 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday at the Baldwin Senior Center for any individual who would like to know how his or her balance is and would like to know how to improve balance. Participants are welcome to come for a meal which is served at 11:30 a.m. Please call the day before by noon to assure there is a meal reserved for you.
Then on July 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., the Lawrence Therapy Services will be at Vintage Park Assisted Living to give a joint pain and protection screening. This screening is also open to the public. There will be no charge for either of the screenings.
Workday set for Vinland Fair
Preparations for the Vinland Fair, Aug. 10-12, are underway and volunteers are asked to assist with this all community event.
The first workday for the maintenance and building projects is set for Saturday at the fairgrounds. Any community member who would like to help with reconstruction of the livestock show arena and other repair projects is encouraged to come.
Other volunteers are needed for the food stand crew on Fri. and Sat. of the fair. Homemade fruit pies, made by women in the community, also are needed for the food stand. Anyone wishing to volunteer for work and/or pies, please call Cheryl Wilson, 594-2753 or Julie Craig, 594-2525.
