Baker splits pair with MidAmerica
It was an up-down-night for the Baker University basketball teams here Monday. The women topped MidAmerica Nazarene 63-60, while the men fell hard to the No. 1 ranked team in the nation 92-59.
In the women's game, Baker jumped out to a 35-20 halftime lead and held off a 40-28 charge by MANC to claim the win. It wasn't the same in the men's game, as BU fell behind 48-29 at halftime and never threatened.
Triece Baker, a 5-foot-9 junior from Morrowville, topped the Wildcat women with 15 points in the victory. Cindy Renyer, 5-7 junior from Sabetha, was close behind with 12 and Theresa Yetmar, a 5-11 sophomore from Fort Dodge, Iowa, had a season-high 10 points.
For the men, Baker was led by Jon Batchelder, a 6-5 freshman from Louisburg, with 15 points. Aaron Schwerman, a 6-7 sophomore from Beloit, chipped in with 10 points.
It was a different story for both teams Saturday at arch-rival William Jewell. The BU men beat William Jewell by 22 points, while the women lost. No other information was available from the game.
Next action for both teams is Thursday at Central Methodist. The Wildcats return home Saturday for a pair of games against Graceland. Game times are 8 p.m. for the men and 6 p.m. for the women.
