Sixth Street change sought near BES

The public got a first glimpse of the Sixth Street reconstruction project at Monday night’s Baldwin City Council meeting. Among the changes proposed in the project is a wider intersection at High Street with a left turn lane and a crosswalk on both sides of Sixth Street; sidewalks along each side of Sixth Street, storm drains, curbs and gutters.
Electric rates to increase

Residents and businesses will notice a hike in their electric bill beginning in January. The Baldwin City Council on Monday night approved an increase to electric rates and to the monthly service fee.
Christmas German Fest features dinner, music

German food and traditions will blend with musical programs during the 14th annual German Christmas Fest from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Clearfield United Methodist Church, northeast of Baldwin. The German Fest started as an open house 14 years ago and became an annual event. A bratwurst dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The dinner includes bratwurst, hot or cold potato salad, sauerkraut, rolls, homemade apple sauce and a dessert of German chocolate cake, black forest cake and German apple cake. “There’s not a calorie in the whole mess,” laughed Gloria Sturm, a church member.
Baldwin High grapplers go against the best

On Saturday the Baldwin High School wrestling team loaded the bus for their first regular season wrestling meet. They entered Leavenworth with the hopes of each of them placing in the top two for a medal.
