Mildred Butell

Funeral services for Mildred E. Butell, 85, Baldwin City, were Tuesday at the Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City. The Rev. Jim White officiated.

Mrs. Butell died Friday, July 28, 2000 at the Baldwin Care Center.

She was born September 10, 1914 near Baldwin City, the daughter of Joseph F. and Barbara P. (Hadl) Madl. She grew up in the Baldwin area and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1932. She worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Services offices in Douglas and Jefferson counties for a few years before her marriage.

On June 10, 1940, she married Herman C. Butell, Jr. at Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City. They were married over 43 years before his death on September 9,1983.

After her marriage, she became a homemaker and farmwife for the remainder of her life. She was a lifelong Baldwin City area resident. She and her family have resided on the same farm, near Baldwin, since 1946.

Mrs. Butell was a lifetime member of Annunciation Catholic Church and the Alter society.

Survivors include: three sons, Larry Butell and his wife, Patti; Leo Butell and his wife, Krystal, and Steve Butell and his wife, Linda, all of Baldwin City; two daughters, Martha (Marty) Ann Oberrieder and her husband, Dave, Topeka and Barbara Jane (Janie) Fry and her husband, Steve, Hesston; two brothers, Robert Madl and Alois Madl, both of Baldwin City; three sisters, Marian Madl, Vivian Clark and Barbara Jean Evilsizor, all of Lawrence; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Butell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Arthur and Ralph Madl, and a sister, Catherine Madl.

Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Baldwin City.
