LOB is approved; Johnson is elected
Baldwin City voters approved an increased in the local option budget in a close vote and chose Bob Johnson as the Republican candidate for 2nd District Douglas County Commissioner by a wide margin in Tuesday's primary election.
The LOB question passed 498-442. It allows the School District to increase the LOB to 25 percent of the general budget, up from 12 percent. It can generate an additional $750,000 to improve facilities and technology, as well as other items such as increased teacher salaries.
Johnson defeated Scott Mock in the primary by 75% to 25%. Both Johnson and Mock live in rural Douglas County north of Baldwin City. Johnson will now advance to November's general election where he will face Democrat Dan Gregg, who was unopposed in Tuesday's primary.
