Walters leads Baker tracksters

April 12, 2000

— Baker's Jessica Walters had a big day in leading the women's track team at the Emporia State University Relays.

Walters set a school record in the high jump with a 5-6.5 leap that broke her old mark of 5-5.25. That effort was also good for first place and was an automatic national qualifying mark.

But that wasn't all she did. Walters' other finishes were: second place, triple jump, 35-6; third, long jump, 17-6; and fourth, 100-meter hurdles, 15.82. All three of those efforts were good for provisional national qualifying marks.

Other top performers and their finishes were: 4x100 meter women's relay, fourth; Jan Myers, fourth, high jump; Morgan Ouimette, 800-meter run, fourth; Triece Baker, fourth, triple jump; Mackie Valentin, fifth, 100-meter dash; 4x800 meter men's relay, fifth; Candace Fortney, sixth, pole vault; 4x800 women's relay, sixth; and Jerry Baker, sixth, triple jump.

Another notable performance was turned in by Renee Suddeth, who broke her own school hammer throw record with a heave of 139-8. Suddeth finished seventh in the event and also took ninth in the shot put.

Other top 10 finishers were: Natalie Graves, seventh, 100 hurdles; Tamia Moses, seventh, 100 meters; Katie Hennes, seventh, 800 meters; Molly Humphries, seventh, 400 meters; Jenny Schultz, eighth, 5,000 meters; Eric Schwarz, ninth, javelin; David Buckley, ninth, shot put; Jerry Baker, 10th, pole vault; Fortney, 10th, 100 hurdles; Jerry Baker, 10th, long jump; and Triece Baker, 10th, long jump.
