Glover leads tennis team to third-place finish

Senior Blake Glover went 3-0 last Wednesday to lead the Baldwin High School tennis team to a third-place finish at the first meet of the season. Glover, the team’s No. 1 singles player, won all three of his matches by 8-0 scores.
Youth football meeting set for Tuesday

Baldwin High School qualified 11 individuals or groups for the State Music Competition during regional qualifying Saturday at Baker University. There were 1,700 high school students attempting to qualify for state at the regional.

Services for Melvin J. Glaser, 78, Ottawa were April 8, 2000 at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Baldwin City. Military services and burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City.
Donald W. “Sonny Hunter” Larson
April 12, 2000
Services for Donald W. “Sonny Hunter” Larson, 66, were Sunday at the Davidson Funeral home in Topeka. Burial followed in the Leavenworth National Cemetery at Leavenworth on Monday.

Services for Betty E. Flory, 75, Lawrence, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Burial followed in Washington Creek Cemetery, Douglas County.

Spring work day grows helpers

Saturday morning was cool, but that didn’t stop community members from flocking to the ballfields for a Baldwin City Recreation Commission work day. It was Baldwin at its finest, according to the commission’s director, Monte Ezell.

Amidst the current and ongoing concern of our youth, another bright spot has been dimmed, at least for now. Coach Bob Timmons, with whom we have been blessed to have had coaching Junior High track had to resign to help take care of his wife who recently had back surgery. What a wonderful and delightful man.

It was an “almost” win, but it’s something everyone who was there will remember. The first-ever home softball game for Baldwin High School Friday had it all.
Group wants to put LOB to vote

While Supt. James White and the school board are discussing LOB-funded capital improvement projects, a group of citizens in the school district have organized a petition to put the increase to a vote.
