The Lumberyard Arts Center announces the exhibit, “Line, Shape and Color”, by distinguished painter and printmaker Evonne English. English received her BFA from Drake University and an MFA from the University of Iowa. For several years, she was an instructor of art, including appointments at Wisconsin State University in Whitewater and at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Since then, she has worked full-time in her studio in Baldwin City and has exhibited widely in juried and invitational exhibits across the country. She has had a number of one-woman shows, including at Baker University, the 7th Street Gallery in Lawrence and the Unitarian Gallery in Kansas City, Mo. “It is part of human nature to find joy in creating objects simply for their visual or tactile qualities. Styles change and preferences vary, but art does seem to fulfill a need within the human spirit, whether in the “doing” or the “viewing," English said in a statement about her current exhibit. An artist’s opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Lumberyard Arts Center, 718 High Street, Baldwin City, KS. The exhibit will continue through Saturday, Nov. 20. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon. More information may be found at www.lumberyardartscenter.org.
